You increase your chances of getting diarrhea if you:
- Consume contaminated food and water
- Travel abroad to other countries, especially to developing countries or underdeveloped countries
- Are a Child: Children are more likely to develop diarrhea because their immune system is not fully developed and they are particularly vulnerable to bacterial and viral infections.
- Take certain medications, including antibiotics, cancer drugs, and antacids that have magnesium.
- Have certain health conditions, including diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, endocrine diseases, colon cancer.
