Some individuals are more prone to UTIs (and consequently, urinary tract pain). You are at an increased risk of developing a UTI if you are:
--Female: Females have a shorter urethra than men, so bacteria only need to travel a short distance to get from the urethra to the bladder.
--Sexually active (for females)
- During sexual intercourse, bacteria on the skin of the vagina can easily get into the urethra and make its way up the bladder.
--Using diaphragms (for females)
--Using spermicides (for females)
--Going through menopause: Women going through menopause have lower levels of estrogen.
