Living with diabetes is a lot easier when you have a support network. Aside from your family members and healthcare providers, you can gain valuable support from other people who understand the unique challenges and emotions you're experiencing. The American Diabetes Association has community programs, information on how to be a supportive friend or family member, a volunteer center and links to other families who are learning to live with diabetes.
The ADA also has online message boards where you can chat with adults living with type 1, adults living with type 2, people who are recently diagnosed, parents of children with diabetes and supporters of a loved one with diabetes. Visit www.diabetes.org for more info. Don't do it alone. There are lots of ways to get — and give — support.
