We've all seen those lists of "superfoods" that we're told we should include in our diet. But what if you have diabetes? The American Diabetes Association had published its own list of superfoods, those that will help you maintain optimum health while meshing with your diabetes meal plan. As with all foods, you'll need to work these foods into your meal plan in proper portions. All of these foods have a low score on the glycemic index and provide key nutrients:
- Beans
- Dark green, leafy vegetables
- Citrus fruit
- Sweet potatoes
- Berries
- Tomatoes
- Fish high in Omega-3 fatty acids
- Whole grains
- Nuts
- Fat-free milk and yogurt
