Summer is here, and it's the perfect time to try new outdoor activities. Being physically active is a great way to keep your weight down and your heart healthy. And according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, getting 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise a week can help you live longer.
Try these activities:
-Walk in the park or on the beach. If it's toasty outside, "mall walking" is a fun way to socialize while staying out of the summer heat.
-Swim or take a water exercise class.
-Garden or bike to the store.
-Fly a kite, organize a badminton picnic, paddle a boat or play golf.
To stay safe in the summer heat, follow these tips.
-Drink plenty of water.
-Wear lightweight clothing that breathes.
-Don a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
-Take frequent breaks in a cool, shady spot.
