When one spouse makes heart-healthy lifestyle changes, the other tends to benefit. Encouraging your better half in better health could help you both. Try these tips:
Read up. Stay abreast of health news to help you care for your family.
Quit puffin'. Smoking is one of the most strongly related risk factors between spouses. Even if you don't smoke, it's unhealthy to breathe your partner's smoke fumes.
Work on your relationship. A happy marriage may be especially important if your partner gets sick. For example, patients with heart failure tend to do better when their partners offer positive support and communication.
Watch your weight. Packing on the pounds boosts your chances of heart disease. Make losing weight a joint effort by preparing nutritious meals fulls of fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Plan at least two and a half hours per week when you can both be active.
