When you have diabetes, it's important to think ahead when planning meals. There are many ways to get professional assistance when developing your diabetes meal plan:

- A registered dietitian can help you create a meal plan tailored to your preferences and needs. Visit the American Dietetic Association's website to find a nutrition professional near you. Visit www.eatright.org and click on "Find a Registered Dietitian" at the right-hand side of the green navigation bar.

- The American Association of Diabetes Educators can help you locate a diabetes educator in your area. Visit www.diabeteseducator.org. Scroll to the bottom of the home page and click on "Find a Diabetes Educator."

- Visit the American Diabetes Association's website for more information on the carbohydrate exchange method. Go to www.diabetes.org and click on "Food and Fitness" in the navigation bar. You'll also find detailed information there regarding carbohydrate counting.
