Tip 1: To help prevent an overuse injury, run no more than 45 miles a week.
Tip 2: With any kind of wound, first stop the bleeding and then clean the scrape, nick or cut. Before covering it with a bandage, apply an ointment, such as petroleum jelly, to retain moisture. The moisture helps prevent scarring.
Tip 3: If you have any kind of food allergy, always read the ingredient label on prepared foods before eating them. Allergens may appear in unexpected foods.
Tip 4: When exercising in cold weather, don't wear heavy cotton sweats or tightly woven materials that absorb and retain water. These materials don't provide dry air near the skin, so they increase the amount of heat your body loses as you work out.
Tip 5: Warm up your morning and lower your cholesterol by starting your day with a bowl of hot oatmeal.
