Tip 1: Regular exercise is important for women at all stages of life, including during pregnancy. Healthy women should get at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity, such as brisk walking, during and after their pregnancy. If the January weather has you looking at indoor options, try doing a pregnancy-exercise DVD in the comfort of your home. Always check with your doctor before starting an exercise program.

Tip 2: Make sure your children’s day-care center or school is tobacco-free. For schools, a tobacco-free campus policy means no tobacco use or advertising on school property is allowed by anyone at any time, adults included.

Tip 3: Have you had the recommended screening tests based on your age, general health, family history and lifestyle? Check with your healthcare provider to see if it’s time for any vaccinations, follow-up exams or tests. Depending on your age and sex, you may want to ask about a Pap test, mammogram, prostate-cancer screening, colon-cancer screening, blood-pressure check, tetanus shot, eye exam or dental check-up.
