Write Down Bad Habits

Image

Whether you're trying to lose weight, stop smoking, drink less or change some other bad habit, keeping a journal may pay off. Writing down your goal and tracking your progress and slipups can help you trade harmful routines for healthy practices.

Tailor your journal to the habit you're trying to change. For example:

--If you're trying to improve your diet, keep an account of what you eat, when you eat it, how much you eat, and how you're feeling when you eat.

--To cut back on your drinking, list the reasons why you want to cut back, followed by a daily limit. Create a chart that lets you record how many drinks you have each day for a week and where you have them.

Analyze your journal or chart for pat¬terns of bad habits. Pinpointing these problems will make them easier to identify and overcome.
