Some people are more likely to experience involuntary leakage of urine. You are at increased risk if you are:
50 years or older
- As you get older, the muscles in your bladder and urethra weaken over time.
A woman who is pregnant
- During pregnancy, the baby can push on the bladder and urethra and cause urine to leak.
A woman who has just given birth
- After child birth, a woman has looser muscles in the urethra, so it is much easier for urine to leak.
A woman who is going through menopause
- During menopause, a female has lower levels of estrogen.

Drink caffeine, alcohol, tea, and soft drinks
- Caffeine, alcohol, tea, and soft drinks are diuretics (drinks that make you urinate more often).

Experiencing a bacterial infection in your bladder
Experiencing damages to the nerves that give out signals to the bladder
